我很敬佩那些從小就知道自己長大後要做什麼的人。小時候的我並不知道未來會成為一位老師、投入語言研究、享受探索語言脈絡與規則的樂趣,也不知道我會這麼熱愛與學生互動的工作。也許正因如此,當我開始教學後,我更願意鼓勵並陪伴學生進行思考、探索與分析。因為唯有透過自己推敲與研究所找出的答案,才能與個人的邏輯思維與生命經驗產生連結,進而產生共鳴,開展出每個人獨一無二的未來可能性。
對我而言,「教學」的真正意義是「傾聽與陪伴」——在與學生的對談中激發他們的思考潛能與學習熱情,最終引導他們走向最適合自己的道路。
我很喜歡拉丁字根 “Lux-“,意思是「光」,常見於許多知名大學的校訓中,象徵教育帶來的光明。然而,老師更像月亮,並非自身發光;真正發光的,是學生——他們因知識而充實、因理解自己而滿足,所散發出的光。我很榮幸能成為這段旅程的一部分,未來也會持續陪伴這些發光的孩子們,在浩瀚而靜謐的宇宙中,有序地前行。
I admire people who have been aware of what they want to be in the future since they were very little. I didn’t know I would become a teacher when I was small. That wasn’t even on the list at some point. But I became one, and I love my job. I enjoy doing linguistic research, finding the reasons and rules behind languages, and talking with students about their thoughts—trying to lead them through the puzzles and help them reach a world of understanding. I know it is only through this kind of process that they can truly feel how significant knowledge can be—when it connects with their own values and their philosophy of life, and begins to shape the path ahead of them.
For me, education is not just about teaching, but about listening and understanding; only through which can we educators help students find what fits them best.
The Latin root “Lux-“, meaning “light,” has always been one of my favorites. It appears in the mottos of many prestigious universities, reminding us that education brings light. But teachers are not sunshine, as we don’t shine ourselves. We are the moon, and it’s the students who shine: it’s their light, full from the richness of what they know, and the joy of understanding who they truly are. I’m honored to be a part of that journey. And in this quiet, vast universe, I will continue moving alongside these bright ones, as they shine, and as we move—together, in quiet harmony.
